Transportation Management

Driving suffers from the disadvantage of congestion and parking difficulties, whilst public transport has many real and perceived problems and in many cases is not an adequate alternative to driving. Intermediate solutions, designed to bridge the gap between public and private transport, including Park & Ride, shuttles and subsidised bus services have gradually been introduced over recent years. Rotala will consider businesses which operate such services and, if relevant, which would be capable of complementing acquired businesses in the parking sector. Set out below are some of the key areas where the Directors expect opportunities to arise in relation to the market for transportation services:

Bus Services

Many large corporations, whether in a city or in business parks, have too little parking available on-site and/or inadequate public transport links. The difficulty experienced by many people in getting to and from their place of work presents the opportunity for an overall ground transportation solution, incorporating on site parking, security and shuttle services to and from and between multi-site locations. The Directors also perceive a gap in the market for a well-backed, well-managed, quality oriented operator of local bus services for the general public. Accordingly, the Directors will consider identifying and acquiring a business which operates corporate shuttles, and/or local bus services.

Chauffeur-drive

The Company has identified the market for chauffeur-driven services as an attractive area which it may be able to enter. It would therefore consider making an acquisition, if a suitable candidate were identified, of a Public Carriage Office-licenced chauffeur-driven business. This would facilitate the Company’s ability to offer an integrated service package.

Park & Ride

Many Local Authorities are attempting to move traffic congestion to the outskirts of the city by the use of multiple Park & Ride sites. The Directors see this as a growing trend, and the acquisition and development of services in this market accords with the Company’s planned strategy.

Integrated Ground Transportation

The fragmentation in the transportation market, as evidenced by the number and diversity of specialist operators of chauffeur-drive, bus, coach, shuttle services and the like, presents opportunities for greater integration. Using technology and having a managed service approach, the Company has identified the prospect of developing overall integrated solutions, utilising in-house and sub-contracted resources.
